The jade hairpin is a product of Qing Dynasty. It is 17.7cm long and 1cm wide.

It is thin and flat. The handle of the hairpin bears an openwork carving of five bats. The five bats are flying around a Chinese character "shou" which means a long life. In Chinese culture, five bats represent five elements of a happy life, including a long life, wealth, health, a peaceful mind, and a good ending without pains and sufferings. Longevity is the most important for a happy life. The jade hairpin is regarded as a representative of the superb craftsmanship of ancient jade products.
