《Special Display of the Yaozhou Kiln Porcelain Series》


China is the hometown of porcelain. The invention of porcelain is the great contribution of the Chinese nation to the world civilization. Around the mid-Shang Dynasty in the 16th century BC, early porcelain already appeared in China. Chinese porcelain evolved from pottery more than 3,000 years ago, and was widely used in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Song Dynasty witnessed a prosperous period of Chinese porcelain. During this period, seven kiln systems, including Ding kiln, Yaozhou Kiln, Cizhou kiln, Jun kiln, Ru kiln, Longquan kiln and Jingdezhen kiln formed. Through various trade channels, colorful porcelain works have been introduced to countries all over the world and recognized as a representative of China.

Tianshui has always been an important town of business and trade in Northwest China, especially in the Song and Jin Dynasties. As a major commodity, porcelain products were frequently traded in Tianshui. This exhibition mainly displays the Yaozhou Celadon, which shows the supreme technology and artistic charm of Yaozhou Kiln celadon firing, and reflects the development of commerce and trade of ancient Tianshui.
