《Celadon Ewer》


This ewer is 9.5cm in bore diameter, 1.3cm in bottom diameter, and 22.1cm tall. It was transferred by the public security bureau in 1993. The ewer is a heritage of the Yaozhou kiln in the Song Dynasty. It has a bell-shaped mouth, straight neck, and is decorated with the 13 "melon ridges", which was popular in Song Dynasty. The whole ewer is glazed with celadon.

Ewer is the common name of Zhuzi, a type of wine set, which appeared in the Sui Dynasty and prevailed from the mid-Tang Dynasty to the Song Dynasty. The ewer with melon ridges was a common vessel in the Song Dynasty, which were produced in a large number of kilns. It is the representative of Yaozhou Kiln in the Song Dynasty, enjoying high historical and artistic value.
