《Rubbings of Zhao Quan's Epitaphs》

Zhao Quan's epitaph was carved in the sixth year of the Northern Zhou Dynasty. It was unearthed in 1936 in Sanyang Chuan, Maiji district of Tianshui, and is now stored in the Tianshui Museum. The epitaph consists of two parts: the cover and the tablet. The cover takes the shape of Luding (Chinese even roof), with four lines and three characters in each line. The characters are in seal script. The inscription in the tablet is composed of 29 lines and runs 29 characters each time, engraved in regular script.

Zhao Quan's epitaph primarily makes record of Zhao Quan's family history, his whole life and significant historical events of the North Dynasty. It is an important historical resource for the study of the North Dynasty history, Tianshui local history and the art of stone tablet in the North Dynasty. Zhao Quan was a famous person in the North Dynasty but there wasn't any record about him before. Fortunately, this discovery fills in the gap.
